Coming Soon: AI Auto-Tagging for Portraits in EDONext!

Managing thousands of student photos just got easier.

*Available by upgrade only. Please reach out to your account manager for upgrade information and pricing.

*Please confirm permission with your school administration prior to using the upgrade. This upgrade will ONLY be added by request.

Our new AI Auto-Tagging for Portraits feature automatically identifies and tags students in your yearbook, helping you:

  • Tag photos faster
  • Track student coverage
  • Ensure balanced representation
  • Save hours of manual work

Whether you are flowing portraits or placing candid photos, EDONext now works behind the scenes to help you stay organized and accurate. As long as you have people uploaded into Manage People Data, you are able to utilize this upgrade.

What Is AI Auto-Tagging?

AI Auto-Tagging uses facial recognition technology to match student portraits from your People database to photos placed throughout your book.

Once enabled, EDONext will:

  • Detect faces in uploaded photos based off of information in Manage People Data
  • Match them to students in your People list
  • Automatically apply name tags
  • Update coverage counts

This means fewer missed tags and better tracking across your entire book.

*This is only enabled if you have the upgrade for AI Tagging

Why This Matters

1. Faster Workflow

No more manually tagging every photo. AI handles the heavy lifting so your team can focus on design and storytelling.

2. Accurate Student Coverage

See exactly how many times each student appears in the book. This helps ensure fairness and balanced representation.

3. Better Organization

Tagged photos connect directly to your People list, making it easier to verify placement.

4. Fewer End-of-Year Surprises

Avoid last-minute scrambling to check whether students were included enough times.

How It Works

Step 1) Upload your People data and portrait photos. Click here to learn more about uploading your PSPA

Step 2) In Manage People Data, click the AI Train button

Step 3) In the pop up window, confirm your would like to train by selecting the Train button

Step 4) You will receive a pop up notifying you if the training has successfully started. You can select close and continue working while it runs

Step 5) Go to Manage Photos and click a category to view if the training has completed. In a category, you will see the Auto Tag button if the training is complete

*The button can take up to 4 hours to appear while the training is processing. If this does not complete in 4 hours, please reach out to your account manager or tech support

Step 6) Click the Auto Tag button in the category you want to use AI to tag, you will be promoted to confirm your decision. Click

*You will have to repeat this process for all categories you want to tag. You cannot tag the All Photos section with Auto Tag, you must select a category

*If you add in more portraits to manage people data after following the above steps, you will need to repeat all of the steps above

Step 7)

Step 8)

Step 9)

Place photos on your spreads.

EDONext scans faces in the background.

Matches are automatically suggested or applied.

Coverage counts update instantly.

If a match is uncertain, you can review and confirm suggestions before they are finalized.

You are always in control.

Tracking Student Coverage

AI Auto-Tagging connects directly to your coverage tracking tools.

You can:

  • View how many times each student appears
  • Filter by untagged or under-represented students
  • Identify students with zero placements
  • Monitor representation before submitting your book

This makes coverage review proactive instead of reactive.

Best Practices for Accurate Tagging

To get the best results:

  • Upload clear, high-quality portrait photos
  • Make sure student names are correctly spelled in your People list
  • Avoid duplicate student entries
  • Confirm matches when prompted
  • Add in missing students as soon as possible. Any students without portraits in manage people data will NOT be auto-tagged.

The cleaner your People data, the more accurate your AI tagging will be.

What Happens If a Match Is Incorrect?

You can:

  • Remove an incorrect tag
  • Reassign the photo to the correct student
  • Manually tag any missed faces

AI Auto-Tagging is designed to assist you, not replace your review process.

Who Should Use This Feature?

  • Advisors managing large schools
  • Schools focused on equal student coverage
  • Staff who want to reduce manual tagging time
  • First-time users who want built-in support

If your book includes hundreds or thousands of students, this feature will dramatically simplify your workflow.
