How to Add Spine Text Tips for Best Results Important Notes

Adding spine text to your yearbook cover helps identify your book on a shelf and gives it a polished, professional look. We've made this easier with a new Add Spine Text button in the Cover Designer.

Our team recommends adding spine text to Hardcover books over 120 pages to help with shelving and create a professional look.

How to Add Spine Text

Step 1) Open your yearbook project and navigate to the Cover Designer

Step 2) Once in the designer, click the Text button in the left menu

Step 3) Click Insert Spine Text

Step 4) A rotated text box will be added to your spine. You can use the quick menu to adjust the font, color & stroke size to your preference. You can double click in the text box to add your own text.

For my cover, I adjusted the color and font to match my theme.

Step 5) Click Save on the top right corner of the designer to save your new spine text on your cover!

Tips for Best Results

  • Keep spine text short and easy to read.
  • Use a font size large enough to remain legible when the book is printed.
  • Preview your cover before submitting to ensure the text fits within the spine area.

Important Notes

  • Spine text is only available for books with a printable spine.
  • If your book's page count is too low to create a spine, the spine text option may not be available.
  • Always review your cover proof to confirm the spine text appears correctly before finalizing your yearbook.
  • If you change your page count, confirm your spine text is still centered and the correct size as your page count determines your spine size.
